NALM Committees

Much of the work of NALM is carried on by its members through participation on one of several Committees. Serving on a committee is a great way to know the value of your NALM membership! Consider serving on one of the following committees. Feel free to email the chair for more information.

All NALM committees meet online, usually for an hour, some monthly, others every other month. Occasionally there are special called meetings when a specific time-sensitive need arises for the committee to address.

ADVOCACY Committee

Supports and promotes lay ministry through its efforts to increase awareness of lay ministry, assists with the development of NALM position papers and statements, suggests issues and actions for advocacy at the local, regional, or national levels.

Receives and processes applications for certification from Pastoral Associates and Parish Life Coordinators; then, makes recommendations on applications to the Alliance Certification Committee.

Assists with all communications to the membership, especially through the NALM website, emails, and social media.

Assists with the planning and local operations of the NALM Annual Conference. Chair:

Plans for the financial stability of the Association, stewards the Annual Fund (all donations and special appeals), explores and secures new/varied sources of funding including grants that further NALM’s mission.

FINANCE Committee

Monitors revenue and expenses, propose financial policies to the Board, assists in preparing the annual budget, and assures the Association maintains sound fiscal policy.

Encourages, supports, and provides for intercultural awareness throughout the Association, raises awareness of diversity issues of mission and ministry in the Church, works collaboratively will all committees and the Board to enhance the inclusivity of the annual conference and other programs and services offered by NALM.

Assists in recruiting new members and retaining current members.

Develops a slate of candidates to present to the Board as possible candidates for Board elections, works with nominees, prepares all election materials, and conducts the election via electronic means.

Produces the monthly e-newsletter, News & Notes, for the association; serves as the editorial board for proposed publications when needed; and provides print and e-resources for members and church organizations.

Establish and maintain good communication within their regions, communicating regularly with NALM members, associations of pastoral associates, regional contact persons, diocesan ministry formation offices and schools of ministry formation.

Seeks practical ways to support and enrigh the Professional National Certification Standards ( which include both the national Common Standards and Common Competencies developed by NALM in collaboration with other committed national ministry associations (The Alliance) and also NALM's own standards for parish life coordinators, pastoral associations, and parish business managers.

This task force seeks practical ways to promote the integral role of the laity, especially lay ecclesial ministers, in the formation of future priests and pastors. Its inspiration come from the Vatican’s new, 2016, international guidelines for priestly formation and the U.S. Bishops’ vision promoted in Co-Workers in the Vineyard.

TASK FORCE FOR Virtual PResentations

This task force works on what topics, speakers, presentations, formation, discussions, etc. should be offered virtually.
