The National Association for Lay Ministry, along with the Catholic Church and the World, mourns the loss of Pope Francis

Pope Francis humbly and faithfully walked in the footsteps of Christ during his life, and his papacy. Synodality became the framework of all conversations with Pope Francis, and he led us in how to better listen to each other. NALM has continued following and building upon his example of leading and living in a synodal way.

He emphasized that we are a church that goes forth, a church of open doors, and a church of mission and evangelization. Focused on accompaniment, he lived out and modeled for the world how to build relationships through encounter, reaching out to the peripheries. Mercy and joy were at the center of his faith and his message to the world.

NALM unites ourselves in prayer that Pope Francis' soul is now resting in the loving arms of Christ, as he has been called home to eternal life in his Father's house.

We mourn his death, as we continue to follow his model of living Christ in this world.

May Pope Francis' soul rest in peace, and may the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Our Sunday Visitor's The Priest recently published an article that shares a story of clergy and laity working well together and reflects on Pope Benedict XVI's participation in that co-responsibility.
